Arrogance and complacency have to be avoided if England wants to be successful in its bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup, it has been stated.

Andy Anson, the chief executive of the bid team, has revealed that England has to learn from the mistakes made when bidding to host the 2006 competition.

Although England holds a strong hand in terms of passion and stadiums, Anson has commented that the country has to change the way it is viewed by others.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, he said: "One of the things we learned from the last World Cup bid was we were perceived to be arrogant around the world in how we presented ourselves. The tone of this campaign has to be different.

"We have Wembley Stadium, fantastic stadiums in Manchester, Liverpool and across the country. We have a strong start point."

Former England captain and Manchester United treble-winner David Beckham will front England's official bid to host the event.

Germany won the right to host the 2006 World Cup, with a number of football sponsorship deals taking place involving companies such as Adidas, Budweiser, Gillette and Hyundai.
