The credit crunch could have the severest impact on teams in the English Premier League rather than others around the globe, it has been suggested.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has remarked that he feels that the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool could be the most impacted by the situation because of the amount of debt they are in.
It has previously been stated that debt of around £3 billion has been amassed by teams in English football, with the big four, which also includes Arsenal and Chelsea, thought to be responsible for a third of this.
According to Reuters, Blatter told the Frankfurter Allgemeine: "Touched by the crisis could above all be English Premier League clubs with investors who today have no more money."
Meanwhile, he added that a number of clubs will also be affected by larger struggles to secure football sponsorship deals, while broadcasting contracts may also diminish.
Manchester United are one club that is yet to secure a football sponsorship deal, with current football sponsor AIG stating this it will not renew its contract when it expires next season.
