A supporters' campaign to buy Stirling Albion has been given backing by the club's current owner and chairman Peter McKenzie.

The Stirling Albion Supporters Trust has come up with a scheme to buy the Scottish second division club, involving football fans around the world.

It is hoped that over 20,000 people will become members of the "BuyStirlingAlbion" scheme, with each paying £40 for the privilege.

Meanwhile, a number of other incentives have been made up to allow fans to show their support, including the chance to buy bonds for £75 and discounted sponsorship packages.

Mr McKenzie told the club's official website: "I have been ploughing a pretty lone furrow over recent years to keep the club in existence and any assistance is to be greatly welcomed.

"Once the campaign is under way I will be happy to sit down and discuss the way ahead to ensure that professional football continues at Stirling Albion."

Among those to support the campaign is Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who is a shareholder with Soccerade, one of the buy-out scheme's football sponsors.

Stirling Albion face Queens Park in their one remaining game this season, with the club already assured of finishing in fifth spot this season.
