West Ham United will learn whether or not they are to be granted a licence to play in European competitions at the end of the season, it has been confirmed.
With the London side currently enjoying a relative end-of-season resurgence, hopes are growing that they might yet finish seventh in the Premier League, despite having lost at home to Liverpool at the weekend.
And while the team finishing in seventh will qualify for the inaugural UEFA Europa League competition, West Ham United failed to submit the documents required to be considered for a UEFA licence by the deadline and, as such, a special panel will sit to discuss their case towards the end of the month.
A statement released by West Ham United read: "Due to a number of factors, principally relating to a possible change of ownership of West Ham United, the club has not been able to submit certain financial information, but expects to be in a position to do so by May 26th."
However, London rival Fulham's win over the weekend against Aston Villa means that they remain favourites to qualify for Europe via seventh spot.
