Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has suggested that the English Premier League is currently unfair as four teams benefit far more greatly than anybody else.
Through sharing television money more equally, the worse-off Premier League clubs could benefit by up to £15 million each year and Whelan suggests that this should be the way forward.
He said: "It is not a Premier League at the moment. There are the top four, some in between and the rest at the bottom struggling to stay in the division.
"Manchester United or Chelsea need somebody to play on the television so we are as entitled as they are to the money that comes in from the broadcasters. That is fair and would help bring some equality to the league."
At the end of the 2007/08 season Manchester United were the Premier League's richest club having earned £49.3 million, incorporating a flat fee of £22.75 million paid to all teams alongside a bonus for winning the league and television revenue.
Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic earned far less at £33.4 million.
Steve Bruce's side have slipped to 11th in the English Premier League after only collecting one point from their last four games.
