In a bid to bolster the financial position at Barnsley, chairman and owner Patrick Cryne has revealed that he would be willing to step down from his position if a suitable replacement could be found.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, the Reds chairman indicated that he is "extraordinarily unhappy" in his current position and has considered resigning in each of the last few seasons.

However, a lack of a replacement has led to Cryne maintaining his commitment to the Championship side, who recently only avoided relegation to League one on the last day of the season.

Cryne told the radio station: "There hasn't been a season without me wanting to say 'enough', the pressure is just too great.

"These years in the position of owner have been the most miserable despite the fact we've had a promotion and been to Wembley. If there's someone there who wants to take the responsibility then I'm happy to sit back."

Barnsley Building Society is the current main football sponsor at the club, which is managed by Simon Davey.
