Plans have been made to increase the capacity at Old Trafford to make it the biggest stadium in the country, it has been reported.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has long expressed his interest in allowing more fans into the club's ground and it has been indicated that his hopes are now to become reality.
According to the Sun, Old Trafford will see its capacity increased from 75,000 to 95,000, with the work predicted to cost in the region of £100 million.
This larger capacity would mean that the ground can seat more fans than the 90,000 that can currently fit into Wembley and would dwarf the levels achieved by their Premier League rivals.
This year's title rivals Liverpool have a full capacity of 45,362 at Anfield, while Chelsea can fit 42,055 into Stamford Bridge and Arsenal's Emirates Stadium holds 60,355.
Manchester United have played their home games at Old Trafford since 1910, although the ground's biggest attendance was the 76,962 that turned up to view the 1939 FA Cup semi final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town.
