MLS authority sparks Carver departure

John Carver has blamed the treatment he received from the league as the reason he quit MLS side Toronto FC.

The Geordie told the Evening Chronicle that he left the table-topping side because of a few situations that caused him to clash with the league and put him on the wrong side of those running the MLS.

He revealed that he recently watched a game from the stand to avoid clashing with the referee and come to a deal with his assistant manager Chris Cummings about who would do the post-match press conference.

Carver told the publication: "We won and Chris did the press conference which got the MLS's backs up because it's all about image."

He added that he also stated that he would be doing the following game against Kansas from the stand because he liked the way it worked.

However, after the MLS "demanded" that he had to work from the technical area he quit because he wanted to manage the club in the way that he saw fit.

The former Newcastle United assistant manager had initially taken over the club in January after they had finished bottom of the MLS.

Cummins or fellow assistant Nick Dasovic seem set to be appointed as the club's new interim head coach.
