Crewe manager speaks of fan support importance

Crewe Alexandra manager Gudjon Thordarson has called on the club's fans to provide the players with the extra incentive they need in their battle with relegation.

The Alex have not won a league game since the middle of March and have consequently fallen into the League One relegation places with only two games of the season remaining.

However, Thordarson believes that the fans have a major role to play in the climax of the season, with around 1,000 supporters expected to make the short trip to Stockport tonight.

Their last game of the season is at home to Leicester, who have already been crowned league champions this season and thus have little to play for.

Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "They need to give the players extra energy and encouragement.

"They have a key role because they can bring a spirit to it. They can make the players feel wanted and make them feel like someone out there has faith in them."

Crewe lost their last league game 2-1 at home to already-relegated Cheltenham.
