Manchester United to make ticket changes

Manchester United has been forced to scrap its 'One Year Only' ticket as a compromise to become fairer to fans.

The Old Trafford outfit launched the ticket in 2006 for non-season ticket holders, giving them a guaranteed seat for all home league games for one season.

Under the ticket, cup matches could not be guaranteed for reasons that different clubs were given different ticket allocations for away cup games.

However, after being investigated for ticketing practices by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), United will still be able to sell their Automatic Cup Scheme ticket as a compromise.

This ticket means that fans have to automatically pay for all cup games by direct debit, regardless of whether a ticket is wanted or not, to guarantee a seat for the matches they do wish to attend.

The OFT were only called into proceedings after many members of the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST), complained that they had seen their tickets automatically cancelled when cup ticket payments were prevented from going through.

Duncan Drasdo, the chief executive of MUST, said: "This is a significant victory for supporters and we welcome the changes to season ticket terms and conditions."

Manchester United's Old Trafford home is a 76,212 all-seater stadium.
