Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has suggested that the Old Firm should pay £100 million each if they are to move across to the English Premier League.
Phil Gartside, the chairman of Bolton Wanderers, has spent many months drawing up plans that will see the Premier League split into two tiers of 18 teams, with both Celtic and Rangers being invited to join the lower of these leagues.
It has been suggested that Gartside's plans have received the backing of seven Premier League clubs, while some of the biggest teams currently in the Football League have also pledged their appreciation.
In the format of the suggested set-up, two teams would be promoted and relegated between the Premier League divisions, while one team would go down from the second tier.
However, Jordan said: "Football is evolving all the time and this would be great for the Scottish clubs but they should pay to come down.
"I'd suggest £100m and the immediate financial benefits that arise for both clubs would soon cover it."
Meanwhile, Wolves secured their position in the Premier League next season, after a 1-0 win over QPR on Saturday ensured their promotion from the Championship.
