Red Star Belgrade midfielder Mirnes Sisic claimed on Friday (April 10th) that he is struggling to pay for rent and food as a result of the club's financial crisis.

The cash-strapped Serbian side - who lifted the European Cup as recently as 1991 - are struggling to meet their commitments amid divisions and disagreement in the boardroom.

Slovenian Sisic gave daily newspapers an insight into the extent of the problems, revealing that he has not been paid any wages since arriving during the January transfer window.

He was quoted by Reuters as saying: "The landlord came over earlier this week and told me to pay three months' rent I owe him or pack my stuff and leave.

"If Red Star can't at least give me money for a roof over my head, never mind what the club owes me in wages, I will have no choice but to go back to Slovenia and stay with my parents."

Managing director Ilija Ivic, a former Red Star striker, confirmed that the board, president and players will meet this week to "see if we can find a way out of this predicament".

Red Star are likely to face a heavy fine after their fans set seats on fire at Stadium Partizana - home of bitter rivals Partizan - following a 2-0 defeat last Wednesday.
