Cash-strapped Salisbury City have been put up for sale for £1 by chairman Neville Beal, the BBC confirmed today (April 9th).
The Blue Square Premier side have been dogged by financial worries all season and have been supported by wealthy businessman Peter Yeldon in recent times.
Fans were even urged to make donations in January to help bring in new players, but Beal, who was part of a consortium that saved the club in 2002, has finally admitted defeat.
He told BBC Sport: "It's the best way forward for the club. It needs somebody who can take it forward with a little more financial clout than me.
"It's a great little club with everything here, ready for somebody to come in. We want the right person to come in and take the club forward."
Lifelong fan Beal, who arrived at the club when they were in the Southern League Eastern Division, added that he will not "walk away" if a buyer cannot be found.
Salisbury play their home games at the 3,500-capacity Raymond McEnhill Stadium.
