Team Bath are to resign from the Football Conference and give up their membership of FA Cup competitions at the end of the season, it was revealed today (April 9th).

The university club, who play at Twerton Park, are currently ninth in the Blue Square South after winning promotion to the second tier of the non-league pyramid last season.

However, the Conference has decreed that their set-up is not compliant with official regulations, meaning that they will never be permitted to achieve further promotions.

Boss Ged Roddy said: "The Conference's decision means the club has gone as far as it can go without making significant changes to its structure.

"Unfortunately the Conference said that no further promotions would be possible, thereby denying us the opportunity to progress."

Roddy added that he was disappointed to be prevented from achieving the club's "dream" of taking a student team into the Football League.

Bath became the first university side ever to qualify for the FA Cup when they reached the first round proper in 2002 and they have since repeated the feat twice.
