Tottenham have today (April 1st) revealed that they will try to keep fans as close to the pitch as possible to boost the atmosphere at their proposed new home.

The north London side are set to submit planning applications in the next few months to build a new 58,000-seater arena which will be situated adjacent to White Hart Lane.

Chairman Daniel Levy confirmed that the development - which will also feature a 150-room hotel and a community-focused square - will see supporters kept as close to the action as possible.

He said: "Too often new stadiums are surrounded by empty, dead space and we did not want that in Tottenham.

"Instead, with these new plans for the public square and public space, we have embraced the opportunity to create something truly special for local people."

Levy added that the square could be used for a wide range of community events by being transformed into a temporary ice rink or a site for street markets.

Tottenham recently posted record pre-tax profits of £39.8 million for the six months to the end of 2008.
