Hicks 'looking for buyers' for Liverpool stake

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is prepared to sell his 50 per cent stake in the club and has launched a search for a buyer, the Sun reports today (March 27th).

The Texan billionaire has been involved in a much-publicised and long-running fallout with countryman George Gillett, who also holds a 50 per cent stake in the Reds.

Hicks claimed recently that he was not interested in selling up, but the newspaper claims that he has instructed global financial firm Merrill Lynch to sound out potential suitors.

The news comes ahead of the planned meeting with Royal Bank of Scotland in July, where the American pair will discuss the refinancing of a £350 million loan they took out to fund the purchase.

Hicks has already spurned the advances of Dubai International Capital, who were willing to buy 49 per cent last year, while Kuwaiti billionaire Nasser Al-Kharafi also expressed an interest recently.

The duo splashed out around £210 million when they bought Liverpool in February 2007.
