Manchester City have announced today (March 23rd) that they intend to cut ticket prices for the home leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final clash with Hamburg on April 16th.
Although City's Premier League attendances have been encouraging - averaging over 43,000 - that level of enthusiasm has not been replicated during their European run.
The highest gate at Eastlands for a continental fixture has not exceeded 26,000, so the club have responded by offering tickets for £5 (and £1 for children) if bought within five days of going on sale on Wednesday.
Executive chairman Garry Cook explained that the decision was taken to ensure that a full house shows up to cheer City on against former Spurs boss Martin Jol's side.
He said: "These prices are our way of saying thank you to all our supporters. It's been a long time since we were in a position to perhaps win silverware and we want to make this game accessible to all."
The current capacity at Eastlands is 47,726.
