Leeds United could be set to pursue a compensation claim against West Ham following the resolution of the Carlos Tevez affair, it was revealed today (March 18th).
The Hammers, who stayed up in 2006-07 - largely thanks to the performances of the ineligible Argentinian - have agreed an out-of-court settlement with Sheffield United, who were relegated on the final day of the season.
However, the independent ruling in the Blades' favour has opened up the possibility of a wave of litigation, with Leeds now claiming they missed out on add-ons from the transfers of Rob Hulse, Matt Kilgallon and Ian Bennett to Bramall Lane.
Chairman Ken Bates told the club's official website: "We are currently taking advice on it. We sold a number of players to Sheffield United with contingencies.
"When they got relegated on the last day of the season we missed out on a substantial sum. That's what we lost and if they are being compensated for their loss we believe we should be compensated for our loss."
Although the official amount Bates could be demanding is unclear, one newspaper report has already suggested it could be in the region of £500,000.
