Brechin City are faced with the prospect of a £30,000 fine if they do not increase the width of the pitch at their Glebe Park home, BBC Scotland reports today (March 12th).
The Scottish Second Division side has fallen victim to new legislation by Uefa and will be hit with the fine if they fail to expand the pitch by the required 2.1m within the next three years.
However, meeting the Scottish Football Association (SFA) general purposes committee's orders would require the closure of one side of the stadium and the uprooting of a famous hedge.
Chairman Ken Ferguson told the news provider: "We are extremely disappointed that a penalty has been imposed for a regulation we cannot comply with."
Ferguson added that the SFA has pledged to work with the club to complete the work, although the exact nature of its support has yet to be decided.
It is believed that the ground cannot be expanded on one side, while there is a stand on the other, meaning that the proposed changes could cost in the region of £100,000.
Brechin are currently in fourth place in the Second Division, trailing leaders Ayr by seven points.
