Cloughie statue in need of expensive repairs

A statue of legendary manager Brian Clough is in need of repairs which will cost nearly £20,000, the BBC reports today (March 3rd).

The bronze figure, which stands at 7ft tall and was erected in May 2007 at Albert Park in Middlesbrough, has reportedly incurred a 'fatigue fracture' to its right leg.

It is believed that the injury, which may have been caused by children swinging on the leg, will take up to ten weeks to complete, at a cost of £19,000.

Paul Thompson, Middlesbrough Council's executive member for Streetscene Services, told the news provider: "Cloughie's unfortunate injury has forced him onto the sideline for some time now.

"However, it was important that we found the right long-term solution to ensure his long-term future."

The statue depicts a 24-year-old Clough making his way to training at Ayresome Park, the former home of Middlesbrough, with his boots slung over his shoulder.

Although the former Nottingham Forest and Derby boss's playing career was cut short by injury, he managed to score a staggering 254 goals in 271 games for Boro and Sunderland.
