McLeish review will face 'resistance to change'

Football Leagues/ Association and Governance

A senior figure at Fifpro has warned Henry McLeish that his plan to conduct a review of Scottish football will not be without its problems, the BBC reports today (February 27th).

Former first minister McLeish will lead a panel which will assess the existence of three governing bodies in the Scottish game, look at league restructuring and the possibility of a winter break.

However, Tony Higgins, head of education at the world players' union, has explained that he was part of a similar thinktank in the 1990s and found the task particularly challenging.

He told the news provider: "Resistance to change was a massive issue then - the implementation of ideas never took place.

"If people think there'll be one body running Scottish football at the end of this, that will not happen."

Higgins added that the ideal scenario would be to have three bodies "streamlined", while he admitted that McLeish may be able to have an impact on the financial and structural aspects of the review.

McLeish was in office from October 27th 2000 to November 8th 2001.
