The Football Association (FA) have come under fire after it emerged that they have double-booked Wembley for two major fixtures, the Daily Mail reports today (February 24th).
It was announced recently by Uefa, European football's governing body, that the national stadium will play host to the Champions League final on May 28th 2011.
However, the date - which falls on a Saturday as the showpiece final will be moved from Wednesdays as of next season - clashes with the Football League play-off finals.
According to the newspaper, the Football League have already sent a strongly-worded letter to the FA and Wembley to explain how they intend to resolve the situation.
They have a 20-year contract which states that the three play-off finals will be held over the Bank Holiday weekend, but it seems likely that one will have to be played elsewhere.
The Daily Mail speculates that the FA were so desperate to secure the multi-million pound Champions League deal that they failed to alert Uefa to their domestic commitments.
Wembley is the most expensive stadium ever to be built, with the construction costs totalling £798 million.
