A leading Portsmouth fan has today (February 24th) queried why a bid from Mayfair-based VS Investment Group to buy the club has been turned down, the Portsmouth News reports.
The company, fronted by former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega, reportedly saw the bid it made on Friday rejected by current owner Sacha Gaydamak.
With the 37-year-old Swiss apparently being given seven days to come up with a further offer, Tony Goodall, chairman of the Pompey Independent Supporters' Association, has called for the situation to be resolved.
He told the news provider: "From a fan's point of view Ramon Vega has the right pedigree. He has a business and understands the game.
"In the past Portsmouth have been owned by people who don't know about football. He looks as though he ticks all the right boxes. I would be interested to see what the reasons are that his bid was turned down."
The deal is believed to have broken down over Vega's insistence that Gaydamak should only receive a small sum in return for taking on Pompey's debts, which are thought to be around £40 million.
Gaydamak arrived at Fratton Park in January 2006 and became sole owner six months later.
