World Cup tickets to go on sale tomorrow

Football Supporters News

Fifa announced yesterday (February 18th) that tickets for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will go on sale tomorrow.

Almost three million tickets will be sold for the tournament - ranging from £14 to over £600 for the final - with 740,000 of that figure being snapped up in the first of five phases.

Demand is expected to be huge, with former German Football Federation general secretary Horst Schmidt revealing that there were 20 million applications at the same stage for the 2006 finals.

"We are not sure how much impact the current global recession will have on the tournament," Schmidt, who is also a World Cup consultant for Fifa, told AFP.

"What we know is that football fans are a peculiar kind. They will want to see their teams at all cost."

There are two types of tickets available to fans - individual match tickets and a series package relating to a specific team.

South Africa must have all ten of its stadia for the tournament completed by October 15th.
