The latest Premier League television rights deal will spark further investor interest in top-flight clubs, a leading football finance expert claimed yesterday (February 16th).
A total of £1.78 billion will be received by the Premier League following two rounds of bidding earlier this month for the right to broadcast live fixtures for three seasons from May 2010.
Now Keith Harris, chairman of London-based investment bankers Seymour Pearce, has explained in an interview with Bloomberg that the news will make clubs more financially appealing.
He told the news provider: "There's beginning to be a recovery in attitude to the possibility of owning a football club. People are now looking to do something they weren't in November, but they're cautious.
"Can the media revenues be guarantees? No. But it does give a lot of comfort that even in this awful economic time the broadcast media do find this content appealing."
He added that the market "could not have been worse" before Christmas, in much the same way as many other major markets.
Harris was the man behind the deal which brought Roman Abramovich to Chelsea in 2003.
