New figures released today (February 3rd) have revealed that average attendances in the Scottish Premier League (SPL) have increased slightly so far this season.
There were fears that the economic situation and its ongoing impact on personal finances would see supporters cutting back on the number of games they are able to attend.
However, official statistics from the SPL show that the league's total gates have increased by 0.7 per cent year-on-year, with 92,918 fans now coming through the turnstiles per week, in comparison to 92,244 last year.
SPL executive chairman Lex Gold said: "We are delighted with the audience figures released today. This is excellent news for our partners and all of our clubs' sponsors."
Mr Gold added that the figures suggest that around 700 extra fans are attending matches in Scotland's top flight every weekend on average.
The highest ever attendance at a match in Scotland was for the clash between Rangers and Celtic on January 2nd 1939, when 118,567 people packed into Ibrox.
