Strachan predicts English transfer market implosion

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has today (January 29th) predicted that the English transfer system will "implode" as clubs' wage budgets are becoming increasingly unsustainable.

The Bhoys have only brought in 17-year-old Czech prospect Milan Misun from Dukla Pribram so far in the transfer window, mirroring the lack of activity by most Scottish sides.

Strachan explained that the wages on offer for "ordinary" players in England are double those of Celtic's best players, making attracting players from south of the border hugely difficult.

He said: "The market is horrendous. The English league is killing everything. Everybody wants to go to England.

"And you can't get anyone to leave there. I think what will happen eventually is that it will implode and it will get back to reality."

Strachan added that players from Europe all want to play in the Premier League due to the riches available to them, while he also cited West Ham new boy Savio Nsereko as an example of his belief.

"I think West Ham bought somebody yesterday from Brescia for £9 million who scored three goals in a year and a half," he said.

Celtic brought in Shaun Maloney, Marc Crosas, Glenn Loovens and Georgios Samaras last summer.
