Manchester United have confirmed today (January 21st) that they will not be renewing their shirt sponsorship deal with AIG beyond the end of next season.

The troubled US insurance firm is currently paying £14 million per year to have its logo on United shirts, while it also has a £5 million-per-year contract to offer fans a range of products through MU Finance.

However, the Premier League champions revealed that they are confident of bringing in a top company to replace AIG when the shirt partnership expires in May 2010.

A spokesman said: "In line with industry practice, Manchester United is exploring the possibility of a shirt sponsor for the new 2010-11 season.

"The club is in dialogue with a select number of top companies worldwide and has so far received sufficient interest to be confident it can improve on its current £19 million annual partnership with AIG."

A number of companies are rumoured to be interested in securing a deal with United, including Saudi Telecom and Indian corporation Sahara.

AIG also announced recently that it had ended its sponsorship of the US Davis Cup team.
