Northwich Victoria locked out of home ground

Football Clubs News

Troubled Blue Square Premier side Northwich Victoria have been locked out of their Marston's Arena home, it has been confirmed today (January 16th).

The Vics, who are currently bottom of the table with 15 points from 24 games, will be forced to take their clash with Histon on Saturday to Altrincham's Moss Lane.

It is believed that Cheshire Trading Standards decreed that the game could not go ahead after stadium landlord Mike Connett removed essential safety equipment from the ground.

A statement on the club's website read: "Some of the amenities which are required for a football match to take place have been removed from the ground."

The news was subsequently confirmed by club owner Jim Rushe, who explained in an interview with the Northwich Guardian: "There isn't enough equipment at our ground to host a football match."

Legendary former Liverpool keeper Bruce Grobbelaar - who was also a Zimbabwe international - played a solitary game for Northwich Victoria in the late 1990s.
