Derby County fans could break a record when they head north next week for their Carling Cup semi-final second-leg clash against Manchester United, the BBC reports today (January 15th).
The Rams have so far sold 8,000 tickets, but if they can sell out their 12,000 allocation it would represent the largest ever away following at Old Trafford.
The previous record was set by midlands rivals Coventry City, who took 11,500 fans to the ground back in September 2007 when they defeated United in the Carling Cup.
Derby chief executive Tom Glick told the news provider: "It's shaping up to be a very memorable night and quite an occasion for us.
"There's a tremendous amount of excitement, positivity and a lot of belief around the training ground."
The Rams are hopeful of reaching Wembley after Kris Commons' superb long-range strike in the first leg at Pride Park last week gave them a 1-0 aggregate lead.
The highest ever attendance at Old Trafford was 76,962, recorded at an FA Cup semi-final between Wolves and Grimsby in 1939.
