Huddersfield fans to trial new stand

Huddersfield Town fans have been informed that they can sit in the Pink Link Stand at the Galpharm Stadium for Saturday's (January 17th) clash with Swindon, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports today.

Season ticket holders will be given the chance to exchange a voucher in their booklet for just £1 (50p for concessions), while non-season ticket holders will also be able to buy tickets in the stand prior to kick-off.

Terriers' chairman-elect Dean Hoyle expressed his delight at the move, claiming that the club's fans can be their "12th man", capable of inspiring the players to greater achievements.

He told the newspaper: "I'm delighted to have home fans in the Pink Link Stand for Swindon. In the four games before Christmas the home fans at the south end of the ground made a real difference to the atmosphere."

However, there was a note of caution as Hoyle reminded fans that the initiative is being carried out purely on a trial basis to determine whether the club can meet Football League criteria.

"For us to be allowed to have our fans in there, we have to comply with the terms of the safety certificate of the ground and Football League regulations - and as such we have to ask our fans to not stand up persistently once the game is under way," he added.

Huddersfield Town became the first ever team to win a hat-trick of top-flight titles in England between 1924 and 1926, a remarkable feat which only Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have matched since.
