Newcastle United's owner Mike Ashley has told fans that he is no longer looking for a buyer for the club and stressed his commitment to fulfilling the supporters' ambitions.
Ashley made his announcement in the programme notes prior to the Magpies 5-1 defeat against Liverpool.
The news will mark the temporary end to five months of speculation concerning who the new owner might be and who they might appoint to succeed Joe Kinnear, who was made caretaker manager following the departure of Kevin Keegan.
Ashley looked forward to 2009 as "the year in which we drive the club forward together".
"Even when I haven't been at games I have remained a keen supporter, kicking and heading every ball and cheering the team on TV and being first to congratulate Joe Kinnear whenever there's a good result," he said.
Kinnear has guided the north-east club out of the relegation zone and into 14th place in the division but will look to further funding from Ashley to strengthen his squad.
