The English Football League is conducting its fourth annual search to find the UK's 'Fan of the Year', it was confirmed yesterday (December 16th).

The recognition, which forms part of the Football League Awards, is designed to pay tribute any fan who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to support their team.

Nominations are being received and the winner will be honoured at a special gala dinner at the Grosvenor House establishment on Park Lane on Sunday, March 29th 2009.

Stewart Thomson, commercial director of the Football League, said: "The Football League relies on the support of dedicated fans, and the awards are a fantastic way for us to identify and reward such loyalty and hard work behind the scenes."

Mr Thomson added that individuals should put forward any fan they believe should be in contention for the award before the deadline on January 14th 2009.

Last year's winner was Brighton and Hove Albion fan Paul Samrah, who played a key role in the club's attempts to gain planning permission for a new stadium.
