Southampton extend sponsorship deal with Flybe

Southampton confirmed on Thursday (December 11th) that it will be extending its sponsorship deal with Flybe for an extra season.

The Championship side commenced their partnership with the airline, which is the largest and most successful regional carrier in Europe, back in 2006.

The previous deal ran until the end of this season but the new agreement runs to June 2010, with the possibility of a further extension if both parties are interested.

John O'Sullivan, the Saints' commercial director, said: "Everyone at the club is delighted to have Flybe as our shirt sponsor for a further season.

"The fact that the club has only had three main sponsors in the past 14 years is an indication of the importance we place on maintaining a first-class relationship with our sponsors."

Mr O'Sullivan also commended the airline's "commitment to the city" in relation to routes and infrastructure at Southampton Airport.

Southampton's finest hour was in 1976, when, as a second-tier side, they defeated Manchester United to win the FA Cup.
