Football Leagues/ Association and Governance
Uefa confirmed yesterday (December 11th) that it is unlikely to entertain a three-nation bid to host the European Championships in 2016.
Reports emerged last week that senior Scottish Football Association officials have engaged in "tentative" talks with their Welsh counterparts about a possible bid for the tournament.
The possibility of getting Northern Ireland on board has also been mooted, but European football's governing body said such a scenario could only arise "under exceptional circumstances".
While the final regulations for interested parties are yet to be finalised, Uefa general secretary David Taylor confirmed that at least nine stadia would need to meet requirements.
He said: "It is our view that nine stadia will be expected for 2016, possibly with some additional back-up stadia."
Competitions director Giorgio Marchetti added that the grounds would have to hold between 30,000 and 50,000 spectators, with "at least a couple" requiring capacities above 50,000.
Uefa confirmed in September that it will be increasing the number of teams in the 2016 championships from 16 to 24.
