Hume ready to leave hospital

Barnsley midfielder Iain Hume could be ready to leave hospital in the next 24 hours, it has been confirmed today (November 17th).

The Canadian international was rushed to hospital after sustaining a head injury in a clash with Sheffield United centre-back Chris Morgan at Oakwell on November 9th.

He underwent an emergency operation at a Manchester hospital and his agent Mike Walsh has explained that it was a success and that he may be discharged very shortly.

He said: "He's feeling better, he may go home (on Monday or Tuesday) which is what we all would like.

"We want him to get back to being with his family and being with his daughter that he's missed and get him back to family life."

The incident sparked much controversy - not least from outspoken Tykes boss Simon Davey - and Barnsley were said to be holding meetings today to discuss the possibility of legal action.

Most of Davey's ire was directed at referee Andy D'Urso, who only gave Morgan a yellow card for the challenge during the match, although the FA may intervene and punish him if it views it as an exceptional case.
