Belgium and Holland have launched a joint bid to host the 2018 World Cup, it has been confirmed today (November 13th).
Fifa, football's world governing body, is set to announce the host of the tournament by the spring of 2011, with England among the nations to have expressed an interest.
Now the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has revealed that the two countries - who successfully hosted Euro 2000 - will be submitting a bid after 11 cities and stadium owners gave their seal of approval.
A statement read: "Representatives of the football federations of Belgium and The Netherlands decided on Wednesday in Breda (in the south of The Netherlands) to create a foundation with the aim of securing the rights to host the 2018 Fifa World Cup."
The news comes 12 months after the Belgian and Dutch governments formally told Fifa that they wanted to be considered for the showpiece event.
Several other nations, including the US, Mexico, Spain, China and Australia have also registered their interest.
Euro 2000 was won by France after David Trezeguet scored a golden goal to secure a 2-1 victory over Italy in the final.
