Allen: Owls takeover is not dead in the water

Football Clubs News

Former Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dave Allen has claimed today (November 12th) that the proposed takeover of the club by a consortium could still go ahead.

The bid, led by Geoff Sheard, has been rumbling on since July, when he agreed to buy Allen's ten per cent stake in the Owls.

Fans group Wednesdayite, who also hold a ten per cent stake, agreed to sell to Sheard in August but then reversed their decision last month, claiming he has not met all their sales conditions.

Some observers believed that the news would sound a death knell for the takeover, but Allen has refuted that suggestion.

He said: "Anyone who comes in and takes those shares, I'm with him. The Sheard bid doesn't cease with me until such time as he says it's all off and he hasn't done that."

Sheard is also looking to buy out Wednesday directors Keith Addy and Geoff Hulley - both of whom also have ten per cent stakes - and adding Allen's into the mix would take him to the required controlling stake of 29.9 per cent.

Sheffield Wednesday have won four league titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup.
