Singapore-based telecommunications firm SingTel confirmed yesterday (November 6th) that it has successfully purchased the internet rights for Serie A on its 'mioTV' IPTV service.
Under the terms of the deal, the company will be able to show up to four live matches from the Italian top flight every weekend, with commentary available in English and Mandarin.
In addition, around 40 hours of on-demand content will be available, while a dedicated channel to host the broadcasts will be launched at a cost of S$8 per month, or provided free as part of the S$19.90 'SuperSaver' monthly package.
Low Ka Hoe, director of mio TV and content, said: "We are very pleased to have acquired the rights to broadcast Serie A games as this is one of the most prestigious leagues in the world.
"Sports content is an important part of our offering and this move signifies our ongoing efforts to expand and improve our selection of quality content for our viewers."
The company revealed recently in its second-quarter results that it had over 45,000 subscribers to the mio TV service as of June 2007.
