Liverpool fans urge Americans to sell

Football Supporters News

A group of Liverpool fans with designs on buying the club have written an open letter to American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett urging them to sell up, it has been reported today (November 7th).

The consortium, known as Share Liverpool FC (SLFC), suggested earlier this year that it had put together a £500 million package as concerns about strained relations between Gillett and Hicks escalated.

Now the group, led by Rogan Taylor, the head of the Football Research Unit at the University of Liverpool, has made its intentions plain in a letter sent to the co-owners.

Certain sections read: "We would like to buy the club and invite you to sit down with us to agree a deal.

"We understand you have decided to relinquish your ownership of Liverpool FC and are actively looking for a buyer.

"Doing the honourable thing and selling the club to the fans would return it to the values that made it the most successful football club in England and one of the best supported clubs in the world."

The SLFC bid has received backing from legendary former players such as John Barnes and John Aldridge, although Hicks and Gillett have repeatedly stated that they have no intention of selling.

It was also confirmed recently that Dubai Investment Capital, which lost out to the Americans initially, is now set to revive its interest.
