Football League clubs have received a massive boost today (November 5th) after FA chairman Lord Triesman claimed that he wants more cash filtered to them from the Premier League.
At present, the top flight distributes around £30 million per season to lower division clubs - including parachute payments for relegated teams - and will do so for the next three years.
However, the Premier League's current broadcasting rights deal brings in a whopping £2.3 billion and Triesman wants to see that figure shared out in more equal fashion.
He said: "There needs to be a greater equality of resources available to individual clubs. The Premier League, to its credit, does distribute money but it is only a degree of equalisation.
"You could imagine greater solidarity payments between different parts of the system."
Triesman added that this "discrepancy" can be particularly seen further down the league pyramid, with many clubs "which are integral to their towns" being made to feel the strain.
Triesman also hit the headlines last month when he expressed his concerns at the amount of debt that clubs in the UK are allowed to accrue.
