Politician gets second chance at draw

A prominent Scottish politician who fluffed his lines during the draw for last season's CIS Insurance Cup semi-finals will be given a second chance next month, it was confirmed today (October 31st).

Alex Fergusson, the Scottish Parliament's presiding officer, made an embarrassing mistake after claiming that Rangers would face Aberdeen and Hearts would take on Dundee United.

He had got confused about the numbers attached to each team in the hat and failed to rectify his error, when the real draw should have pitted Rangers against Hearts and Aberdeen against United.

But now he will get another opportunity when he joins up with first minister Alex Salmond on November 12th for this year's semi-final draw, which involves Rangers, Celtic, United and Falkirk.

The Scottish Football League failed to clarify Fergusson's gaffe for several hours after the draw had taken place, leading to considerable confusion and embarrassment.

The most successful team in the history of the competition is Rangers, who have won it 25 times and have not lost a final since way back in 1990.
