English clubs receive £3 million payout

Football League clubs have received a record financial distribution from FL Interactive (FLi), it has been confirmed today (October 22nd).

The online arm of the Football League handed out over £3 million to its members for the 2007/08 season, representing a rise of more than 50 per cent from 12 months earlier.

The increased contribution has been attributed to a mass overhaul of the design of club websites at the start of last season, providing a better service for the total of 4.5 million users.

FLi chairman Ian Ritchie said: "The new generation of FLi websites has given clubs the platform to provide an outstanding online service for their supporters, as well as the opportunity to earn substantial commercial revenues.

"This is encouraging clubs to be ever more creative in this area and as a consequence some will earn substantial six-figure sums out of this record payout by FLi."

The FLi currently counts 65 Football League clubs, six Premier League clubs and eight clubs from the Blue Square Premier among its members.
