Boyle berates clubs who exploit Old Firm fans

Motherwell chairman John Boyle has hit out at the price fans have to pay to watch football in Scotland.

He explained that clubs outside the Old Firm are exploiting Celtic and Rangers fans by charging inflated prices for away games.

His comments come as Motherwell announced that they would reduce ticket prices for Old Firm fans to just £15 in order to boost attendances at Fir Park.

"I've noticed over the last few years that attendances when Celtic or Rangers visit have been slipping and slipping," he told the BBC.

"When I took over at Motherwell ten years ago you were virtually assured a full house. We're now not getting anything like that. We have empty seats.

"We have assumed for too long that we can charge whatever we like and Celtic and Rangers fans will turn up - that simply isn't the case, and acutely isn't the case when financial circumstances are like they are at the moment."

Mr Boyle has previously pioneered 'free tickets for school kids' ideas and has long sought new ways to get fans back to games.
