Foreign billionaire owner trend does not concern Scudamore

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has claimed that he is not worried by the growing number of wealthy foreign investors buying top-flight clubs.

Manchester City were the latest club to be acquired after being snapped up on transfer deadline day, while rumours over prospective foreign takeovers persist at Newcastle and Liverpool.

Leading figures such as FA chairman Lord Triesman and culture secretary Andy Burnham have expressed their concerns about the trend, but Scudamore has explained that he does not view it as a major problem.

He said: "You can get to a situation where clubs who are well managed can compete in the Premier League without necessarily having the biggest wage bill, as Arsenal proved three or four seasons ago.

"By rights, Chelsea should have won the league for the last three or four seasons if it was all about resources and money."

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has explained that he is looking to sell the club in the wake of fan protests and has openly admitted that he would love to sell to foreign billionaire investors who can lavish money on the club.
