A new survey released today (September 16th) has suggested that the majority of football fans now believe that the game is becoming too expensive.
The poll, carried out by strategic market research company Drummond Madell on behalf of the Liberal Democrats, questioned 1,009 adults in the UK for their views on the financial side of being a fan.
The results showed that 75 per cent believe attending matches is far too costly, particularly with the current economic downturn squeezing household budgets.
Furthermore, 77 per cent claimed that they would like to go to more matches in an ideal world, but that they feel excluded and priced out of the market at present.
Shadow Liberal Democrat secretary of state for culture, media and sport Don Foster said: "We have a Premier League with the lowest number of home-grown players in Europe, rip-off ticket prices at our grounds, and rising costs to watch live sport on TV."
Mr Foster also added that he intends to address the issue in parliament next month in an attempt to keep fans in the game and bring those who have become disenfranchised back to grounds around the country.
