The editors of Newcastle United fanzines The Mag and true faith have called on the Toon Army to reject calls for a boycott of the club's next fixture at home to Hull on Saturday following local hero Kevin Keegan's acrimonious departure from St James's Park.
Talking to the Evening Chronicle, Mark Jensen and Michael Martin said the letters and emails they have read from fans suggest that this is not the best course of action available to supporters who wish to voice their opposition to the perceived mistreatment of King Kev by the Newcastle hierarchy.
Rather, they advocate action which will hit the football club and owner Mike Ashley in the pocket - namely the boycotting of club merchandise, programmes, food and drink sold through either official Newcastle United outlets or those owned by Ashley.
"Having read many hundreds, if not thousands, of e-mails sent into both fanzines we are recommending [this course of] action in protest at the board's appalling treatment of Kevin Keegan and the entirely unworkable structure it has established at the club, namely around the clubs transfer policy," the duo told the local paper.
Jensen and Martin have also sent a message to Ashley asking him to refrain from sitting with the fans during the match - as is his penchant - as he is "not a Newcastle United supporter".
Keegan left the club last week, claiming a lack of involvement in the club's transfer policy.
