Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has held clear-the-air talks with chief executive Rick Parry in a bid to ensure stability at the top of the club.

Rumours of friction between members of the club's management have gathered pace over the potential signing of Gareth Barry.

It is believed that Benitez was dismayed by the lack of support from the board over the transfer but said that talks have helped.

"It was a positive discussion and we will now move forward together," the Liverpool boss said.

Parry also responded, telling the club's website that a "friendly and positive" meeting had taken place and that he too was looking to move forward.

Fans will be pleased to see the two get along after several high-profile disagreements between the club's hierarchies have threatened Liverpool's progress.

In April, the relationship between Tom Hicks and George Gillett deteriorated to breaking point with the pair failing to speak to one another.

Hicks also called for the resignation of Parry and Benitez himself asked for the board to sort out their problems in the interests of the club's future.

"If we want to go forward and sign players, we have to all work together," he was quoted as saying.
