Bournemouth have been told that they must accept a 17 point deduction if they are to play in League Two this season.

The club have been made an offer by the Football League after it considered using the 'exceptional circumstances' provision.

In administration, the club has failed to agree a company voluntary agreement (CVA) with creditors and it is therefore unable to meet the conditions of the League's insolvency rules.

But the Football League decided to make the club an offer requiring them to start the season on a 17 point deficit.

The club must also agree not to challenge the decision and pay unsecured creditors the amount offered at the time of the hearing.

The news follows reports that Rotherham were also handed a 17 point penalty for failing to meet the league's financial requirements.

It means that along with Luton Town, who suffered a 30 point penalty, three teams will be battling for their survival in League Two on minus points.
