Manchester City have moved to deny media reports linking Thaksin Shinawatra with a possible sale of the club.

It was rumoured that the Thai owner might part company with City as he continues to answer charges over corruption back home.

But the club has denied the reports are true, a spokesman saying that Shinawatra was not selling.

Despite the claim, the spokesman did reveal that "exploratory" talks with some people interested in the club have been held.

"It is not true to say Thaksin Shinawatra is selling Manchester City. He spoke with (executive chairman) Garry Cook on Wednesday morning and those were the sentiments he echoed in very strong terms," the spokesman explained.

The rich owner has not been able to release as many of his assets due to the ongoing allegations in Thailand meaning Manchester City fans have been short of summer transfer action.

While Mark Hughes has been installed as manager and Jo has signed, the club has only added Tal Ben Haim to bolster their defence.
